Social media research class offered in Spring 2018

In the spring semester 2018, I am offering a course on social media research at VCU. In the course “MASC 591 – Social Media Research,” I will develop and carry out research projects with graduate and qualified undergraduate students to study the impact of social media in the field of mass communications. The class will be held Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. in the Incubator Classroom at VCU, a state-of-the-art learning space.

In the course, students will apply mass communication research methods, such as content analysis, in-depth interviewing and survey, to answer research questions about social media that derive from the current state of the field. Students will review the academic literature on social media as well as the theoretical concepts, develop research methodologies, carry out and write academic studies.

Students enrolled in the class should have some prior academic research experience (such as in MASC 611 or MASC 672 or MASC 425). The course is open for students from a variety of disciplines interested in conducting social media research. Enrollment is by override.

Please e-mail me, if you are interested.
