Twitter struggles with stalling growth

After being one of the leading and most popular social media platforms for years, Twitter is losing ground to newer platforms like Instagram and Snapchat and is seeing its own growth stall. I was interviewed by the Associated Press on Twitter’s future. The following is an excerpt from the article “Disappearing Act: Twitter Reports Flatlining User Growth” that was published on Feb. 10:

Perceptions of Twitter are souring on both Main Street and Wall Street, according to Marcus Messner, an associate journalism professor and social media specialist at Virginia Commonwealth University.

“Twitter is looking kind of old now that there are younger, sexier platforms out there,” Messner said. “When you think of Twitter, it is not where you want to be if you want to be an innovative user of social media.”
