Knight News Challenge proposal: Building a mobile health news network

The Knight News Challenge has selected our grant proposal for a mobile health news network as one of 51 finalists out of the more than 1000 submissions in the first round this year. My colleague Yan Jin and I have proposed the project “” that would equip teenagers in an inner-city neighborhood with smart phone technology and train them in social media and multimedia reporting, so that they can report on health and nutritional issues in their community and build an online network. On Friday, I was interviewed on 97.3 WRIR’s Open Source by host Will Snyder on our proposal and how we would build such a network in cooperation with the William Byrd Community House in Richmond.

Please listen to the entire interview on 97.3 WRIR – Richmond Independent Radio. If you are interested in more details about out proposed project, please e-mail me.
