The New York Times and the Washington Post have increasingly used social media platforms like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter as sources for their news reporting. My VCU colleague Tim Bajkiewicz will present the results of our study “Facebook, MySpace and Twitter as journalistic sources: An analysis of social media uses in traditional news media” on Thursday, Sept. 8, at the Future of Journalism Conference at Cardiff University in Wales. An analysis of the use of social networks during their early years showed that the newspapers increasingly cited them in business, arts and entertainment articles.
